This fact, allows others to take knowledge of certain aspects of one's private life. Althought, this "knowledge" can be something of interest to ones, it can be very painful and disturbing to others. In this series of works, called Family Portrait (as indeed is what it is), the artist propose a reflection to the question of bringing to the public domain something that by nature should be kept private. Where does it lies the justification to the reproduction of an image for his alleged historical, jornalistic or supposed "public interest"? Where should we begin to respect the privacy of others? Family Portrait suggests the opposite way, which is taking, once again, to the private domain that that was considered public. Starting from a picture, the image is carved and fragmented; the detail is emphasized, enlarging or cutting certain aspects, taking the captured moment from its space and time context; and the characters in the picture are emptied of their essence. To the viewer is given to know only a part of the reality, a fragment of the capture moment, thus allowing the preservation of the intimacy of that moment. simenta/October.2008
